Zia Sun Symbol Pin, Reverse
2013
18k Yellow gold, Opal
2" x 2"
Commissioned to reflect on a trip to the Southwestern US, this piece centers around the beautiful opal in the center. The stone is bezel set in 18 karat gold, and the whole piece references the sun symbol of the Zia people, a tribe native to New Mexico. The back of the piece is pierced with design elements inspired by the ornate pottery of the Zia, whose distinctive patterns and bold style are popular with collectors of Southwestern Art.
